About Jade Ferguson

It has once been said we do not remember days; we remember moments. And for as long as I can remember, I have been toting a camera in an effort to capture these moments.

I have always believed that to photograph a moment means to not only capture a subject in its natural state, but to preserve the emotion the experience creates. As a poetic and artistic expression of mine it has been my vision to capture images that facilitate time travel – a visceral return to the moment, long after its dissipation. This is the honour and privilege that the art of Photography bestows.

I have never subscribed to definition by category to represent my work. Instead I am called to capture Visual Poetry, most often through performance, portraiture and personal work. I am a romantic, I believe in telling stories, I believe in the moments in between, and I observe perfection in imperfection as a creative construct.

My work is oftentimes available light based, with a gentle, hopefully (as opposed to hopelessly) romantic undercurrent on both digital and film. I also enjoy shooting studio portraiture and I love to consciously co-create imagery with my clients.

I have shot performance imagery for: Opera Queensland, Circa Contemporary Circus, Griffith University QLD Conservatorium, Australasian Dance Collective, Little Red Company, Brisbane Festival, Splendour in the Grass, Blues on Broadbeach, Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival and I regularly shoot live music for themusic.com.au and a number of music publicity firms and venues. I have worked with retail and commercial clients including Mecca Cosmetica, Silk Laundry, Roxy, Unyoked. Tatine, ThisisIncense, Moss Living, Exceptional Alien, Aria Property Group and many more. I also work as a Production Stills and BTS Photographer on set with many Brisbane based Directors, Filmmakers and Production Companies. I am also a contributing writer for Shotkit, and Kolari Vision Media on the subject of Photography.

My work has appeared in: The Courier Mail, The Australian, The Music, Limelight Magazine, The Conversation, The Creative Issue amongst others. In 2020 and 2021 respectively, my portraits of Dame Quentin Bryce and Amy Sheppard were selected as finalists in the Brisbane Portrait Prize and in 2021 my live music imagery was included in the Ballarat International Photo Biennale Number One / Gudinski exhibition in memory of the late Michael Gudinski.
